The Company

In the summer of 1994, we successfully negotiated the purchase of all reclaimed wood from the world’s most famous wood framed building (the Sears & Roebuck Complex in Chicago, Illinois).
The Sears & Roebuck Complex was begun by Richard W. Sears in 1905 and completed in 1906. It had 5 million square feet of floor space and spanned two city blocks. The complex served as workspace for more than 9,000 employees in 1906. At that time, it was the world’s largest commercial building. Further, it was a fitting home for what would later become the “World’s Largest Store”. In 1906, its employees filled orders for nearly 5 million customers. At its height, there were 22,000 employees working there. During the early part of the 20th century, the Sears, Roebuck & Company Complex was identified as the largest post and beam building ever built.
As the last truckload of Reclaimed Heart Pine was shipped to our factory in North Carolina, over 12 million board feet of Antique Heart Pine had been salvaged and recycled.
Giving Beauty a Second Chance
At Legacy Planks, we specialize in reclaiming and preserving the character of old, original planks—each piece rich with history and unmatched in authenticity. Unlike modern imitations, our wood retains its original color and surface, showcasing the depth of timeworn patinas, saw marks, and natural weathering that only decades, or even centuries, can create.
Our reclaimed wood is transformed into flooring, paneling, stair parts, cabinet stock, and early furniture designs, bringing warmth, durability, and timeless beauty to homes and commercial spaces. Every board tells a story—whether it once stood in a historic barn, a century-old textile mill, or an early American homestead.
Pine is at the heart of Legacy Planks. As one of the most historically significant and widely used woods in early construction, reclaimed pine embodies the craftsmanship of the past. From heart pine to softwoods with deep, rich grains, we carefully source and repurpose these materials to ensure their continued legacy in today’s designs.
What sets us apart is not just our commitment to preservation but our unique ability to produce products that are both beautiful and durable. Every plank undergoes a meticulous selection and finishing process that enhances its natural character while ensuring it meets the highest standards of quality and longevity. Our work is rooted in sustainability—salvaging the past to build the future—all while reducing environmental impact and minimizing waste.
At Legacy Planks, we don’t just sell reclaimed wood; we honor it. We invite you to experience the warmth, history, and craftsmanship that define our products and help bring a piece of the past into your space.
